Environmentally Responsible Products
We at Classic City Cleaning have chosen Von Schrader products, because they have always been environmentally responsible/sensitive, effective and safe for the user. We recognize consumer concerns about how our products affect you, the environment and indoor air quality. Providing you with high quality, safe and performance reliable products will always remain a prime company objective.
In order to ensure that our products are environmentally and user compatible, we have been upgrading our products to:
- Provide highly concentrated products that result in less water waste and reduce landfill accumulation of empty plastic containers by offering bag-in-a-box packaging.
- Provide labels with ingredient statements.
- Biodegradable. Contains no toxic, hazardous, or regulated chemicals.
- Contains no volatile organics, nor any harmful indoor or outdoor environmental pollutants.
- Provide products free of heavy metals. In fact, our products have never contained these.
- Produce no toxic by-products in the cleaning process.
The Von Schrader Company strives to produce products that protect indoor air quality with the least impact on the environment. Our products are unique in the carpet cleaning industry, with the lowest water exposure (least damage to natural carpets, less chance of mold/mildew, and allow immediate use). With worldwide sales, 99+% of the products manufactured by Von Schrader aready meet the EU Detergent Directive. A computerized formula system controls what ingredients can be ordered, preventing unsuitable substitutions. An Engineering Change Notice and a meeting are required for any changes.
As part of our continuing product/process improvements, Classic City Cleaning along with Von Schrader, eliminate some products and formalize the current new surfacant selection process across the entire product line;
- Use of only “readily biodegradable” surfacants (by OECD 301 series methods).
- Use of products with low aquatic toxicity, LC50 >1mg/L, with preference given to products with LC50 of 100+mg/L (basically, the DfE screen).
- Additional preference will be given based on bio-based content.
They currently deal directly with suppliers for information, but hope to use CleanGredients in the future to speed product development. With these improvements in the products that we manufacture, we expect to be able to apply for Champion status in this program by September 1, 2008.
Safer Surfacants
With concerns throughout the world about the breakdown of cleaning products in the environment, we are taking additional steps in product stewardship. Even though 99+% of the product manufactured by The Von Schrader Company already meets the EU Detergent Directive, we have signed on as a Partner with the EPA’s Safer Detergent Strategic Initiative. By fall of 2008, all of the products that we manufacture will be made with surfacants that are classified by the EPA and the EU as “readily biodegradable”, and we will apply as a Champion of the EPA.
EPA Recognizes Von Schrader
The EPA has recognized the Von Schrader Company as a partner in the Design for the Environment Program’s Safer Detergents Stewardship Initiative. This recognition acknowledges our significant accomplishment towards the use of safer surfactants. As a partner, we’re listed on the EPA SDSI Web Site.
